• Yet another ingenious 3DCP application has emerged: swimming pools. • I saw aLinkedIn postby Axtra3D’s Rajiv Kulkarni, and tracked down what had occurred. • The project involved designing a 3D printed concrete backyard swimming pool - to accompany a 3D printed home, no less. • It was designed by Tristan Peirce Landscape Architects, and 3D printed in concrete by Contec Australia, based in Perth, Australia. • The project involved designing an unusual geometry for the outside of the pool, said to be very challenging to achieve using conventional building methods. • To execute the printing, the walls of the pool and an adjacent hot tub were 3D printed.
Article Summaries:
- Concrete 3D printing has been applied to a residential backyard swimming pool, marking the first known instance of a 3D‑printed pool. Designed by Tristan Peirce Landscape Architects and printed by Contec Australia in Perth, the project used a 3‑D printer to lay the pool walls and an adjacent hot tub, inserting rebar between layers before pouring concrete to finish the structure. Additional planters and features were also printed. The technology enables complex geometries that would be difficult or costly to achieve with conventional pouring and moulding. While the cost comparison to traditional pools remains unclear, the demonstration suggests new design possibilities for future residential pools.
